Steenis) is a plant which is actually a wild plant. Sungkai leaves contain flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, triterpenoids, saponins. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Binahong leaf ethanol extract tablets (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) on blood cholesterol levels in male mice (Mus musculus).</em></p> <p><strong><em>Methodes</em></strong><em>: </em><em>This research is an experimental research using the Easy Touch Glucose Cholesterol Uric Acid (GCU) checking method. Thirty male white mice were divided into 6 treatment groups, namely the Normal control group, Positive control, Negative control, F1 group, F2 group, and F3 group. Where mice were measured for blood cholesterol levels on day 1 as normal cholesterol, then their cholesterol levels were raised by feeding high cholesterol quail egg yolks for 7 days then checking the blood cholesterol of mice, after that it was lowered by being treated with Binahong Leaf Extract Tablets for 7 days then checked again mice blood cholesterol<strong>.</strong></em></p> <p><strong><em>&nbsp;Results</em></strong><em>: </em><em>The research results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (p&gt; 0.05) which was then tested by the Duncan showing that Binahong Leaf Extract Tablets at F3 doses of 14 mg with a reduction percentage of 20.64% had effectiveness in reducing blood cholesterol levels in male mice (Mus Musculus).</em></p> <p><strong><em>&nbsp;Conclusion : </em></strong><em>Binahong Leaf Extract Tablets have a buffer effect on reducing total cholesterol levels in mice</em></p> gina lestari Copyright (c) 2024 Oceana Biomedicina Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-01-31 2024-01-31 7 1 10.30649/obj.v7i1.138 Indonesia https://ocean-biomedicina.hangtuah.ac.id/index.php/journal/article/view/126 <p><strong>Latar Belakang: </strong>Meningioma merupakan tumor intrakranial yang paling sering terjadi pada orang dewasa. Progesteron berperan dalam perkembangan dan proliferasi sel tumor yang terkait dengan hormon, seperti meningioma. Morbiditas dan mortalitas yang signifikan dapat terjadi, ketika lesi terlokalisasi di daerah yang sulit untuk dilakukan reseksi bedah atau sangat infiltratif pada jaringan di sekitarnya. Banyak penelitian yang dipublikasikan tentang sifat molekuler yang terkait dengan perilaku agresif meningioma, termasuk matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), namun penelitian tentang hubungan antara ekspresi PR dengan MMP-9 masih belum banyak dilakukan.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Metode : </strong>Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian observasional analitik <em>cross sectional</em>. Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi analisis deskriptif dan analisis bivariat. Data yang diperoleh diolah menggunakan SPSS <em>software.</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Hasil : </strong>Uji korelasi Spearman untuk ekspresi PR dengan <em>grading</em> WHO pada meningioma, didapatkan nilai p=0,492 dan koefisien korelasi -0.117. Hal ini menunjukkan korelasi yang tidak bermakna<strong>. </strong>Uji korelasi Spearman untuk ekspresi MMP dengan <em>grading</em> WHO pada meningioma, didapatkan nilai p=0,16 dan koefisien korelasi 0.236. Hal ini menunjukkan korelasi yang tidak bermakna<strong>. </strong>Uji korelasi Spearman antara ekspresi MMP9 dan <em>grading</em> WHO pada meningioma diperoleh nilai p=0.008 yang menunjukkan bahwa korelasi antara nilai PR dengan MMP9 bermakna dengan nilai korelasi sebesar -0.427.</p> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Kesimpulan : </strong>Tidak terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara ekspresi PR dengan <em>grading</em> WHO. Tidak terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara ekspresi MMP9 dengan <em>grading</em> WHO. Pen insulin can be used alone by <br>the patient without requiring trained personnel. The patient's incomprehension in carrying out therapy is <br>one of the causes of therapy failure, due to the lack of knowledge and understanding of the patient <br>about the drug, everything related to the use of drugs for treatment.<br>The purpose of the study was to determine the knowledge based on the characteristics of <br>respondents, evaluation of insulin use pen, injection area, storage area, side effects. The study was <br>conducted by distributing questionnaires as primary data and sampling using purposive sampling <br>method. Respondents were patients with diabetes mellitus who used insulin pen in poly disease in <br>Bhayangkara Hospital. Data processed descriptively displayed with tables and graphs.<br>The results of the study were respondents with good knowledge, namely undergraduate 10 <br>respondents (15.87%), civil servants and other jobs (pensioners, irt, students) each of 9 respondents <br>(14.29%), women15 respondents (23.81%), age 18 - 65 years 19 respondents (30.61%). Fast action <br>insulin and combination of 17 respondents (26.98%), novorapid 15 respondents (23.81%), no oral <br>drugs 44 respondents (69.84%), frequency 2 times a day, novomix 14 respondents (22 , 22%), 10-15 <br>units 13 respondents (20.63%), insulin use&gt; 1 year 27 respondents (42.86%), did not cause symptoms <br>57 respondents (90.48%). Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key protein in the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). In meningiomas, binding of VEGF to the VEGF receptor (VEGFR) through activation of the Ras/MAPK signaling pathway and control of vascular permeability through the PLCγ pathway peritumoral (PTBE). Sixty percent of meningiomas are associated with peritumoral brain edema (PTBE).</p> <p><strong>Objective</strong>: This study aims to determine differences in VEGF expression on various indices of meningioma edema.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong>: An analytical observational study with consecutive sampling in 69 samples diagnosed with meningioma with MRI data. VEGF expression variables based on Immunohistochemistry were classified into scores of 0, 1+ and 2+. Risk factors are similar to other thromboembolic <br>diseases and include hypertension, smoking, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, <br>hypercoagulability, and male gender. All therapy for central retinal artery occlusion <br>aims to restore perfusion or oxygenation of the retina. Management for acute central <br>retinal artery occlusion can only be effective if performed less than 6 hours after <br>symptoms.<br>41-year-old woman, came to the Retina Eye Polyclinic, Surabaya Community <br>Eye Hospital with complaints of sudden blurring of the right eye since 3 days ago. Menggunakan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan senyawa flavonoid</p> <p>Simplisia diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi dengan etanol 96%, kemudian dilakukan identifikasi senyawa flavonoid dengan penambahan serbuk Mg dan HCl pekat dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Penegasan kromatografi lapis tipis. Selanjutnya &nbsp;dilakukan Penetapan kadar ekstrak &nbsp;etanol daun kenikir (<em>Cosmos caudatus</em> Kunth.) dengan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis</p> <p>Hasil Identifikasi yang didapatkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun kenikir (<em>Cosmos caudatus</em> Kunth.) positif mengandung senyawa flavonoid dilihat dari perubahan warna jingga hingga merah. Hasil kromatografi lapis tipis didapatkan nilai Rf rata-rata &nbsp;0,78 dengan bercak noda berwarna kuning kehijauan dinyatakan positif mengandung senyawa flavonoid. Benth.). Swamp is low land ecological system filled with standing water. This study aims to measure approximate water pollution level based on water mimosa (<em>Neptunia plena</em> (L.) Benth.) density using biometering to be used as public information to maintain and manage swamp water quality. This study showed dissolved oxygen content was 23.6, 24.64, and 25.05 at Station I, II, and III respectively. The pH at Station I, II, and III was 6.48, 6.50, and 6.47 respectively. The clarity was 0.18 m, 0.47 m, and 1.12 m at Station I, II, and III respectively, averaging at 0.59 m. This has an impact on increasing the number of elderly (old) population. Aging is a natural process experienced by every human being and has been going on since the beginning of life. The aging process involves various physical multidimensional changes so it is a complex process. Includes mental, social, spiritual and physical changes. Changes in this mental aspect have an impact on cognitive function decline. A number of efforts can be made to inhibit the progression of the rate of decline in cognitive function, one of which is a good diet.</p> <p>METHODS A study of 17 research articles from accredited and reputable international journals was conducted to study the effect of dietary patterns of consuming marine fish on the cognitive function of the elderly.</p> <p>RESULTS Diet pattern has an effect on the cognitive function of the elderly. The Mediterranean diet pattern, consumption of wine, nuts, fruits, vegetables, protein foods, and seafood was correlated with lower cognitive decline, while the Western diet was associated with higher cognitive decline. Dietary patterns of consuming marine fish are associated with lower levels of cognitive decline in the elderly.</p> <p>CONCLUSIONS Good dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet and consumption of marine fish, are correlated with lower rates of cognitive decline in the elderly.</p> Elizabeth Natasya Harijawan Copyright (c) 2024 Oceana Biomedicina Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-01-31 2024-01-31 7 1 10.30649/obj.v7i1.110 The Role of Metformin on the Expression of Apoptosis-Related Caspase Family Members https://ocean-biomedicina.hangtuah.ac.id/index.php/journal/article/view/151 <p>Metformin is the main line drug in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, now metformin has <br>been widely studied for its potential for the treatment of various diseases. Apoptosis is a programmed <br>cell death mechanism mediated by various proteins from the caspase family. Furthermore, the apoptotic <br>caspases are subdivided into the initiators (caspase-2, -8, -9, and -10) and the effectors (caspase-3, -6, <br>and -7). Various studies have reported that metformin could induce apoptosis, while other studies have <br>reported otherwise. This study aimed to reveal the role of metformin on the expression of caspase <br>proteins associated with apoptosis. Bioinformatics analysis using STITCH v.5.0 was performed to predict <br>the metformin-caspase interactions. The results showed that metformin could directly activate caspase3 and -7. However, at the same time, metformin could also inhibit the expression of caspase-3 and -8. <br>Furthermore, metformin did not interact directly with caspases -2, -6, -9, and -10. The patient has a main complaint, namely a lump under the right armpit, felt since <br>2 months before visiting dr. Iskak Tulungagung.<br>DISCUSSION : Pleomorphic LMS or dedifferentiated LMS shows nonspecific and poorly <br>differentiated pleomorphism. To make this diagnosis, the characteristic morphological <br>features of classic LMS must be obtained, or the patient must have a prior history of LMS. <br>On immunohistochemistry, approximately 50–75% of pleomorphic LMS are positive for at <br>least one myogenic marker, although the smear is often weaker and more focal than in a <br>typical area of leiomyosarcoma.<br>CONCLUSION: Microscopically, the morphological appearance of dedifferentiated LMS <br>can resemble the appearance of other high-grade sarcomas, so clinical, radiological, <br>histopathological considerations and further examinations such as immunohistochemical <br>smears are needed.</p> Anggie Sasmita Kharisma Putri Copyright (c) 2024 Oceana Biomedicina Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-01-31 2024-01-31 7 1 10.30649/obj.v7i1.149
